A Little About Me
JPEG of Mrs. Truchan

Welcome to first grade at Roosevelt Elementary. My name is Amy Truchan (pronounced TRUE-SH-ON). I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. This will be my 24th year of teaching at Roosevelt but my 11th year at teaching first grade. I have taught kindergarten for 11 years and 2nd & 4th at the beginning of my teaching career.

I grew up and attended elementary through college here in Livonia. I worked at Jackson Center for four years right out of high school. I've been married for twenty-one years. I adopted 2 adorable but mischievous cats (Sherby & Kingsley) that are now 4 years old and are truly like raising children. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your family as well.

  • Home Links: We are now near the end of unit 2 and at the beginning of each unit, there is a 'family letter' that explains to you about concepts being taught and an answer guide. It's just a resource to you. There is not a homelink to go with it. Typically, a homelink has 2 concepts on it from 2 different days, front and back.  I told parents at Curriculum Night that sometimes the links say bring coins to school. I try to catch them and cross them out. But if I don't, there is no need to send in any money. We will have a unit 2 Math test some time next week.

  • Picture Retake is Nov. 2nd.

  • The Halloween Bash is next Friday Oct. 26th at 6:00pm. This is an opportunity for kids to wear their costumes and have lots of fun!

  • Speaking of Halloween, I totally forgot I have a party to plan. Geez Louise! It will be on Wednesday Oct. 31st at 3:00pm. I will email you a Google Doc to sign up for food items. One of my favorite things is eating a donut on a string with no hands. This is a no costume event as our Halloween Bash this Friday is the student’s costumed fun.

  • The kids are nearly done getting comfortable with our school routine to be independent & understand expectations. I need to update my volunteer calendar with this years dates & vacations. It is a Google Doc that you simply type in your name on the days that you’d like to help. The time is 9:15-10:00 am. I will normally have the volunteer link on the home page of my website. You must have an approved ICHAT to be able to volunteer in the classroom as I have you work in the hall with the kids.

  • I will soon be starting to have the kids bring home a “just right” reading book to be read by them every night and recorded on a reading log that will  be turned in every Friday. More info will come soon.

  • Just an FYI that our staff meetings are every Wednesday morning. They can go right up to the first bell. So I apologize in advance if I get to the back door to let the kids in a little late.

  • Friday Oct. 26th is Favorite Sports Team Spirit Day & Popcorn Day.

VOLUNTEER CALENDAR   (NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE)

Here is the link to my Google Doc where you can sign up to volunteer in the classroom. It is not open right now as I won't need a volunteer for several weeks as routines need to be put in place and established. Simply click on the title above, then at the bottom of the page, pick the desired month tab. Type your name in the box next to the date you want, wait a few seconds for it to be saved and you're done. Dark purple represents the weekends and light purple are school days with no volunteering. If you can not access this link, please let me know. I have had some parents in the past say they can't open it on their phones which could happen if you do not have Google Drive. I can always fill your name in on a day you want. If you can not make it in on your scheduled day at the last minute, please email me. You MUST have an approved ICHAT form on file at Central Office to volunteer because you will be working in the hallway. Right below this section is a link to the ICHAT request. My times are 9:15-10:15 a.m. every day. You will be listening to kids read, over seeing them use an iPad app, playing a math game, practicing their sight words, catching kids up on missed work, etc. All of these activities will be done in small groups or 1-on-1 in the hallway. Sometimes you'll only work with a only few kids on that day verses the whole class in small groups. Math games will always be the whole class. If there's extra time, I may need you to cut, staple, or do a small errand if you don't mind. Mr. Green often has school assemblies on Mondays. I do not have a prescheduled list of these days so if you sign up for a Monday, I will have to contact you at the last minute. They usually start at 9:15 am and last about 30 minutes. If you don't mind a shortened volunteer time, then you are welcome to still come on that day. Thanks for your support in advance!

They can either call our school’s attendance line at 734-744-2775 or better yet, enter their child’s information directly on the Absence Verification Form on our website. "Misc" can be doing various things with students, an art project, or doing a task for me. Thanks for you support in advance!
