Good morning Roosevelt Families,

The first week of school went by really fast and all stakeholders did really well! The week not only held the first days of school and all that comes with it, but curriculum night and an all school assembly to introduce our staff to boys and girls also took place.  As we discussed with boys and girls this past Friday, relationships and routines will continue to be our main focus.  We will also spend the month of September highlighting the word RESPECT and why it is one of Roosevelt the Tiger and the Livonia Public Schools key character elements.  Ask your child about Roosevelt the Tiger!  If they aren't sure, you can visit him at Roosevelt The Tiger.  He has many good tips for how we treat each other and how we should act at our school.

As you know, it is the start of the school year; so many important pieces of information are listed below.

Families have been doing a great job with our arrival and dismissal procedures.  Thank you so much.  Below are a few reminders.

Front Loop off of Lyndon is for special education and general education busing.

Kindergarten student's arrival and dismissal is at the front of the building.  The loop that you enter off of Henry Ruff near the Southwest portion of the lot is for you to either drop off or park.

Grades 1-4 arrival and dismissal is at the rear of the building. Grades 1-4 families may use either drop off loop that is located on Henry Ruff.

Staff begin arrival supervision at 8:45 a.m.

·      At dismissal, boys and girls who ride the general education buses wait in the gym with adult supervision until the buses arrive.

If you haven't notified your child's teacher of their daily dismissal plan, please do so.

·      Again, we have plenty of adults outside to help you if you have any questions.  A big thanks to our crossing guard, Ms. Sandy who is a pillar of safety on the corner of Henry Ruff and Lyndon.

·      Boys and girls in grades 1-4 will soon take the i-Ready math and reading diagnostic test.  In addition all students will be going through a variety of other reading and math assessments as we collect evidence for next steps of instruction.

It was encouraging to see so many families last week at our Preschool Open House (Preschool ASD 101) and our grades k-4 Curriculum Night.  The attendance rate for 2016 was 76% and for this year it was around 72%. For those that did not attend, I understand there may have been grade level conflicts or competing interests.  We offered free day care and many families took advantage! My goal for next year is to achieve at least 80% attendance rate.   For your child to be successful in school the Roosevelt staff accepts the responsibility to work with you to meet your child's social, emotional, and academic needs.  Parents and guardians have a responsibility therefore to be an active and informed partner in their child's education.  Thank you for your support.

As you have noticed from recent emails, there have been several changes this year to our district's free and reduced application and cafeteria payment process.  Please see attached.

Nuts About Science has been redesigned this year into multi-week classes.  Registration information for Session 1 can be found at  Thank you to Mrs. Shelide for organizing our Nuts About Science after school enrichment offer.
