Good morning Roosevelt Families,

Wow!  What a game last night.  MSU made fewer mistakes and came out as winners.  Although I have a son who attends MSU, boys and girls at Roosevelt know I am a Wolverine fan.  It was another close game and unfortunately from my point of view, a bummer of a result.  As for our community, 55.6% wanted U of M to win the game while 37.5% of Roosevelt families woke up happy today.  6.9% of Roosevelt families had no preference in regards to the result.

We had a fantastic assembly on Friday reviewing our September work on RESPECT and kicking off the month of October with our theme of CONFIDENCE.  Ask your child about the assembly.  The staff at Roosevelt believe in your children!

We did not meet our Color Run goal this year.  We are several thousand dollars short of our goal. Thank you to those who gave of their time and money towards our main fundraiser of the school year.   When reviewing donation data, only about 1/3 of our families donated money towards the Color Run.  Please note when distributing PTA funds to the classrooms and students, we include all students in our distributions; not just those who fundraised.  Our goal was $50 per family!  As I have mentioned for weeks, any donation amount will continue to be accepted throughout the school year.  Please consider making a donation to the Roosevelt PTA.  If you write a check, please put Color Run in the memo line.

I will be meeting with the PTA this week to discuss next steps in regards to raising additional funds.  Congratulations to Mrs. Burns class for raising the most money and to Sophia B. in Mrs. Kozan's class for winning the trip to Kalahari.

Please see attached photos of student artwork that is on display at the Livonia Public Schools Board of Education Office.  Congratulations to our wonderful 4th grade artists and thank you to Mrs. Connors for inspiring our young artists.

Have you signed up for your Parent Teacher Conferences yet?  As a reminder, Parent Teacher conferences for grades k-4 will take place the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, October 18 and Thursday, October 19.  In order to make scheduling more convenient for our families, we are using an online service for you to sign up all of your children at the same time.  All you have to do is go to the link below and follow the online directions:

The Halloween Bash is right around the corner.  See attached flier!  The PTA is asking for wrapped candy donations for the Halloween Bash.  You can drop off your candy donations to the main office.

The holidays are around the corner.  Spirit Wear is a great gift! Visit to place your order and show your school spirit.

Are you familiar with the third grade-reading bill?  This is sometimes referred to as Public Act 306 or House Bill No. 4822.  At parent-teacher conferences, you will receive a copy of your child's fall assessment results.  The focus of parent-teacher conferences won't be on the report card, which comes home in December, but rather your child's current progress academically and socially.  To address this fall data, every classroom will have a designated period of each day devoted to providing additional supports to struggling learners and enrichment/extension activities for children who are scoring at or above grade level on their assessments.  We will also count on you for a home plan to help your child be successful with their grade level expectations.  I have attached some informational documentsfrom Wayne County RESAwhich highlights the third grade-reading bill.  Thank you for being an active partner in your child's education.

Take a look below to see what is taking place this week at Roosevelt Elementary School.  For specific classroom activities, please stay in touch with your classroom teacher's communications.
