Good morning Roosevelt Families,

Last week was a busy week at Roosevelt Elementary School.   It was nice to see you at Parent-Teacher conferences as well as at our PTA Halloween Bash on Friday night.  We have many to thank for their time and efforts.  For that I am grateful.

Please see below for this week's updates as well as some feedback surveys for you to complete.

Roosevelt Elementary is proud to participate in the Livonia Goodfellows' food drive again this year! The Goodfellows' organization helps support families needing assistance in Livonia and portions of Westland. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about charity and lending a hand to families who need support during this season.

The food drive is running October 16 through November 17. Classroom teachers will have a box located outside their classroom doors for donations of canned, boxed, and plastic jars containing nutritious foods to give to families in need. Every single donation is greatly appreciated! Each classroom will have a student to represent the class and help count items.

A committee of 4th graders has been formed to participate in this charity event.  The 4th grade students will help collect and count the items with Mrs. Martz, on Fridays, during recess time.  We will also have a bulletin board displaying a turkey for each class to show our participation. The turkeys will earn a feather for every ten cans, boxes, or plastic jars; the class donates for the charity. The turkey with the most feathers, at the end of the drive, will be recognized with a luncheon for the class.

It is my hope you left parent teacher conferences with a clear understanding of your child's progress.  Parents may have different goals during these meetings than our staff.  Parents main concern may be their child's citizenship, progress towards grade level objectives, how are they in comparison to the typical child their age, or do they have friends in class.  Whatever your purpose, please know that although the conference window is over, you should never hesitate to contact your child's teacher should you have questions or concerns.  The Roosevelt staff is filled with dedicated and caring adults who are committed to this important parent teacher partnership.  Please take a few minutes to complete our conference feedback survey.  Visit Parent Teacher Feedback Survey to complete the parent-teacher conference survey.

Thank your for your support and feedback!

Perfect attendance certificates went home with boys and girls last week.  Congratulations on your excellent work getting to school each and every day during the month of September.

This is our final week for our fall PTA Box Top Contest! Please send in all Box Tops by October 26, 2017. Bring in 5 Box Tops that are not expired and your child will receive a sucker!

A big thank you to all the PTA Executive Board and parent volunteers who made the Halloween Bash a terrific evening.  As you know community input is important for continuous improvement in all we do.  Please take time to complete the following feedback survey at PTA Halloween Bash Feedback Survey

PTA Reflections is a wonderful opportunity for our students to express themselves artistically around a theme chosen by the National PTA.  I want to give a shout out to Mr. Nadong, for his continued leadership with PTA Reflections.  Information is below.  Deadline is November 10 for entry submissions.  Roosevelt typically is well represented in PTA Reflections so please encourage your child to participate.

Reflect on the 2017 theme: "Within Reach" and let your child express those ideas and imagination on these following categories that your child want to submit an entry:

1) Dance Choreography

2) Visual Arts 2D

3) Visual Arts 3D

4) Literature

5) Film Production

6) Photography

To give you an idea and glimpse of this year's Reflections theme, please watch this informational video:

Your child can submit one entry in each category that is allowed which would give him or her more chances on winning one or more categories.

Submit all artwork entries together with the Official Entry Form attached and drop off your child's entry submission at the School Secretary's office on or before FRIDAY, November 10, 2017.

Thank you!

Peter Nadong
