Good morning Roosevelt Families,

Cooler temperatures arrived late last week.  We may have a few spotty warm ups over the next few weeks, but the transition to fall is underway.  I hope you were able to enjoy some of the weekend's beautiful weather.  Last week I enjoyed seeing our families at Open House/Color Run and having lunch with our August and September birthday group.  That is truly one of my favorite monthly activities.  October 26 we will celebrate our October birthdays.

As I have written for several weeks now, boys and girls have been assessed on their foundational math and literacy skills.  Our staff has begun the process of studying that assessment data to determine what our next steps are in regards to intervention and enrichment for students.  Starting in mid-October, each classroom will have a designated period of each day devoted to providing additional supports to struggling learners and enrichment/extension activities for children who are scoring at or above grade level on their assessments.  As parents, we look forward to communicating this and other information formally during Parent Teacher conferences.

Donations for the Color Run will continue to be accepted throughout the school year.  All donations are due this Monday to be eligible for the Kalahari Trip and the Classroom Pizza Party.  Winners for Kalahari Trip and the classroom Pizza Party will be announced this week.  Upon conclusion of this fundraiser, the PTA will determine if we met our fundraising goal.  In order to continue with classroom, school, and community based events we need to meet our budgeted goal.  If we fall short of that goal we may have to hold additional fundraisers or eliminate/ restructure certain budgeted items.  Thank you for your support.

Per my email last week:

This year Parent Teacher conferences will take place the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, October 18 and Thursday, October 19.  In order to make scheduling more convenient for our families, we are using an online service for you to sign up all of your children at the same time from the comfort of your home.  All you have to do is go to the link below and follow the online directions:

Some things to keep in mind when scheduling conferences are each teacher's schedule may differ.  In order for conferences to stay on schedule, please leave enough time when traveling from one conference to the next.

As you will recall, the classroom that had the highest PTA membership percentage at the end of September will receive an ice cream sundae party to celebrate. Congratulations to Mrs. Kozan's class on earning a PTA Ice Cream Sundae Party.   PTA Membership is the easiest way to show your support for our PTA and all they do for our boys and girls.  We will accept PTA Memberships throughout the school year.

The holidays are around the corner.  Spirit Wear is a great gift! Visit to place your order and show your school spirit.

Take a look below to see what is taking place this week at Roosevelt Elementary School.  For specific classroom activities, please stay in touch with your classroom teacher's communications.

·      Did you know that October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month?  I would encourage you to visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website at  This website contains information on bullying and is a wonderful resource for staff, parents, and children.  As you know, at Roosevelt the teaching of our character elements is just one of many ways we address positive behavior at our school.  Roosevelt The Tiger also gives great advice on how to show high regard for all.
