Good morning Roosevelt Families,

I hope your weekend is going well.  This past Friday we had a wonderful assembly reviewing the three character elements of RESPECT, CONFIDENCE, and RESPONSIBILILTY.  In January our focus will be on MINDFULNESS, which means to be aware and present.  Looking forward to sharing this focus with you next month.

As we approach the holiday I wish all Roosevelt families a safe, relaxing, and grace filled vacation.  This holiday season seems like a good time to make sure I thank everyone for their support of our school and especially recognize all the people who work behind the scenes to make our school wonderful.  As you know our students, parents, and daytime staff are amazing! However, let us not forget about: the PTA for all the wonderful events and opportunities they provide our boys and girls; Mr. Nate and Ms. Kathy for cleaning our buildings each night; Ms. Sandi and Ms. Nicole for serving breakfast and lunch daily; Ms. Renee, Spencer, Aliana, and Toni in SACC for providing additional care before and after school; our bus drivers for the outstanding work they do driving students to and from school daily; Ms. Sandy on the corner of Lyndon and Henry Ruff directing traffic each day to ensure a safe arrival for our walkers; and our outstanding lunch staff who open food, ensure an orderly lunchroom, and supervise children at recess each day.  This list doesn't even include the countless other LPS employees who through their daily efforts make each day a blessing to come to work.  Thank you all and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

"But you were always a good man of business, Jacob,' faltered Scrooge, who now began to apply this to himself. Business!' cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. "Mankind was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The deals of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!"

i-READY USAGE and RAZ KIDS READING

From 12/25/2017-1/7/2018 I am challenging all students to spend a bit of time each day to read.  See below for the challenge.

·      i-Ready Students:  Spend at least 45 minutes during the week of 12/25 and 1/1 on i-Ready instruction.

·      RAZ KIDS:  Students who are not using i-Ready instruction are challenged to either read, listen or be quizzed on books for at least 45 minutes each week while of vacation.

Boys and girls know if they meet this challenge they are keeping their brains sharp over vacation and also motivating me to provide an incentive to them when we return from vacation.  Get your i-Ready and RAZ KID minutes in today as well!

PTA SWEETS FOR STAFF

An annual tradition that takes place at Roosevelt is the PTA SWEETS FOR STAFF.  Please see attached note.  We thank you for the yummy treats and additional calories.

SNOW

I love watching our boys and girls play in the snow.  We quite honestly were getting a bit tired of all the indoor recess periods.  It brings me back to my youth to see children playing in the snow and having so much fun.  However we must remind you that snow is also WET.  So please know that children who don't have boots, coat, gloves/mittens, and snow pants are discouraged from playing in the snow.  Sitting in wet clothes all day isn't fun!

Take a look below to see what is taking place this week at Roosevelt Elementary School.  For specific classroom activities especially holiday parties, please stay in touch with your classroom teacher.
